I’m a recruiter. Unfortunately, I’m not a mind reader. Sometimes, I wish I could read minds because it would help candidates avoid the one big mistake they make when partnering with recruiters. Always be completely honest and upfront with your recruiter.

A gap on a resume is a difficult but unavoidable part of being unemployed. Yet, you are in control of just how wide that gap gets. How so? I urge job seekers to try and find meaningful work that helps bridge the gap between permanent positions.

If you are one of the millions of Americans who were laid off, let go, or are otherwise looking for work in this sluggish economy, you are not alone. While you may feel a kinship with your fellow unemployed, you may also feel the rivalry. Today, there are just too many people vying for the too-few positions. If you’ve been at the job search for awhile now, you may be tempted to take on a consulting or contracting post. After all, some money in the pocket is better than none at all. Or is it? If you take a contract position, will it help or hurt your chances of landing a permanent position?
